2019-2022
The idea for this project emerged during the first lock down of the COVID-19 pandemic, a historical event that drastically changed our lives, habits, and certainties. It significantly altered our relationships with people, space, and time.
This new normal forced us to witness the collapse of what we once considered solid certainties. Our homes, once shelters, became prisons from which the only connection to the outside world was through windows. This crisis highlighted human fragility and the illusion of control we believed we had over the world through intelligence and technology. The pandemic showed us that we are all vulnerable to an invisible enemy, regardless of social status, ethnicity, or religion.
After the first months of isolation, I decided to start a series of portraits of my closest friends and family in Berlin and Rome. These portraits, taken through the windows of their homes, focus on the sense of loneliness and detachment from everything and everyone, capturing the feeling of being in limbo with an uncertain future.
